Wan-Bissaka is West Ham’s eighth senior signing of the summer as they look to back new head coach Julen Lopetegui
West Ham United have completed their £15 million move to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United, and have handed the right-back a seven-year contract.
Wan-Bissaka, 26, is the eighth senior signing at West Ham, where an overhaul of the first-team squad is taking place following the appointment of Julen Lopetegui as head coach.
His long-term contract at the London Stadium is similar to the deal handed to Max Kilman, 27, who signed a seven-year contract following his £40 million move from Wolves earlier this summer.
New striker Niclas Fullkrug, 31, is also committed to the club until his mid-thirties, after penning a four-year deal as part of his £27 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
The move for Wan-Bissaka provides Lopetegui with a powerful and energetic option at right-back, with the former United defender now set to compete with Vladimir Coufal for a starting position.
It marks a return to London for Wan-Bissaka, who came through Crystal Palace’s academy before joining United for £50 million in 2019.
“It was a no-brainer for me to join West Ham – I’m excited and happy to be here,” he said. “It’s an amazing feeling to be back in London, and I’m excited for what’s coming. I was born here, so I know the ins and outs of London, which plays a big part in my life, so to be back playing in this city means a lot to me.”
Tim Steidten, the West Ham technical director, said: “He’s exactly the type of player we’re looking to attract to this club in the prime years of his career.
“He’s an incredibly talented defender who we rate very highly – superb in one-on-one situations. He’s versatile too, which is clearly another positive.”
West Ham have now spent around £130 million on new players this summer, although that investment has been balanced out by sales worth in the region of £40 million.
Along with Kilman, Wan-Bissaka and Fullkrug, West Ham have signed Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United (£25 million), Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras (£25 million), Guido Rodrgiuez on a free transfer from Real Betis, Jean-Clair Todibo on loan from Nice and goalkeeper Wes Foderingham on a free transfer from Sheffield United.
