Chicago Rawhide C/R No. 4 MALLET
You are bidding on a previously owned and used cast iron Chicago Rawhide split head mallet/hammer.
The hammer shows wear.  There is a slight chip to the handle near the head.  There is a second chip near the butt of the handle.
The interesting thing about the hammer is that the leather faces show virtually no wear.  No dents or creases.  No splits or mushrooming yet the red paint is worn and there are scratches and wear marks to the handle.
The overall length of the tool is a tad over 14 inches.  The faces are 2 inches in diameter.  The head appears to have a very large collar with an 8-sided nut beneath the head.  Apparently it’s to loosen the two halves of the body to replace the leather inserts.
The head is 4 1/8 inches by 2 ½ inches.  The handle appears original and  has a shield with the letters C/R and the number 4 beneath it.
The mallet is used for forge work, leather work and possibly jewelry work.
