Custom Built (by SSX Field Coil Audio Products) BFC 104 15" 16-Ohm 3-Way Reference Studio Full Range Driver Replacement for Altec 604 Applications as shown.
This driver is similar to the BFC 104hp that are listed. This driver includes a custom back cap that eliminates the lead in wire to the HF diaphragm and uses a more robust frame for the woofer portion.
The driver HF section includes a JBL 2441 diaphragm; but
can be further upgraded using the Truextent Beryllium diaphragm - for even greater highs.
This speaker is a very high quality reference model, which can be used to upgrade Altec 604 types for recording studio application.
The unique massive HF section of this model uses a 4" compression driver portion, which is capable of explosive HF output up to and above 16k - with a 6DB slope boost that begins at 10K.
The popular wood horn was designed by the late Dr. Bruce Edgar and is a "tractrix" curve with a cutoff of 54Hz. The LF section uses a paper edge cone similar to the JBL 150-4C. An augmented sub is recommended below 50Hz.
