    Description

Alpha 1 Generation Gen 2 Bellows transom repair kit With shift Cable
These are the best quality bellows I can find with consistency since Mercury moved to China and now outsources bellows and bearing to Mexico.
This Kit comes with everything pictured in 3 pictures! The transom repair kit, Shift Cable with the little parts for the ends, Heavy Duty greaseable Bearing Sierra part number 18-21005 and a 1.5 ounce tube of quicksilver bellows adhesive!
Anything 1998 or newer (Alpha One Generation Two) Should have the heavy duty bearing.
In 1998 they started useing a heavy duty bearings! The standard bearing will work but if you are turning high rpm's or a boat over 4000 pounds you should consider the heavy duty bearing.
I also have Type 1, Bravo, Alpha One Generation one & Pre-Alpha bellows listed in my E-bay store.
There are cheaper bellows out there that do not have the same quality and there is a heavy duty bellows out there that cost a lot more money. The simple truth is bellows should be changed every 5 years and none of the 3 grades of bellows will last more than the 5 year time limit with out fatigue.
This is a word to the wise; Shift cables should also be changed every 5 years while you have the drive off the boat doing the bellows. Remember you may think the shift cable is good and working properly but the cables wear on the inside where you can’t see it. And if you don’t change the shift cable with the shift cable bellows you will have the extra labor of doing the shift cable before the change of the second set of bellows because the cable will not last the 10 years. New Shift cables are including shipping and it is not worth the labor of replacing it separately.
    With all shift cable installs:
When bell housing is off, first install outer shield. Then install bellows boot. Then install inner cable so it is inside outer shield when you run it up to the motor otherwise the stiff piece on the end will not make the curves going up to the motor.
To install outer shield and tighten the brass nut, you can grind down 2 side of a deep well socket so you can use a crescent wrench on it to tighten the cable an extra turn.
When we install bellows we heat up a cup of water so it is real hot about ¾” deep. We put a dab of grease on a q-tip and get grease inside the small end of bellows and grease on the brass that has to run through it. We soak the tip of bellows and brass in the hot water for 15 seconds and force it up on the shaft. You can also use some wd 40 to help slide it up where you need it.
Make sure you then install the inner cable before you run it up to engine compartment and tighten screw clamp on bellows.
Oh here is  a tip; Never store your boat with outdrive in up position as it stretches out the bellows and allows the hydraulic ram seals to dry and freeze up so they wont close.
