NOTES:
So in the first four months of Elvis Presley's 1956 history, he was beginning to be noticed - The Jackie Gleason show, "Mystery Train" released, his first gold album (
Elvis
), signing a movie contract with Paramount, a guest spot on the Milton Berle Show, and his first (disastrous) concert appearance in Las Vegas. However in the Songwriter's Review, t
he story on him calls him "Elvin Presley"
(see pictures).
In fact, it's spelled "Elvin" in the photo caption, and in the small story on him. Crazy! Pretty amazing piece of Elvis memorabilia.
Also LOTS of song poem ads - ads for lyric writers.
Stories:
Abbott Records picked songs to record
Drive to erect a monument in honor of Merle Travis (composer of "Sixteen Tons")
Sheet music for "My Darling"
Story on gimmicks in lyrics
Sheet music for "Be Mine"
Picture of Betty Madigan with disc jockey Chuck Breece - WFBM, Indianapolis
Tiny mention of Alan Freed at WINS in New York to resume duties at Coral Records.
