Description
This mallet is handmade and VERY durable. It was completed on September 7th, 2022.Heirloom quality -
I always use rare or very figured cuts of wood for my mallets to make them as attractive as possible. This mallet's handle is made of Spalted Maple which has been stabilized and the head is made of Claro Walnut. The metal collar between the head and the handle is made of brass.
Built Professionally -
The head of this mallet is secured to the handle via a glued double-wedged mortise and tenon joint which can be tricky to pull off but is one of the most durable joinery techniques in all of woodworking. I only use Titebond III wood glue which is very high quality, waterproof, and the strongest you can buy. Finished with 3 coats of a very durable gunstock oil.
My mallet can beat up your mallet -
Regardless of how showy the mallet is, toughness and usability are always the ultimate aim. Each mallet is as durable as it is beautiful. I make my handles slightly thicker than most mallets, making the joint between the head and the handle nearly impossible to break. Each mallet can withstand numerous full force smacks into hard concrete (the floor of my garage can attest) thanks to the strength of the mortise and tenon joint and the brass collar. As long as you don't hit anything sharp with it, it will last a generation.
The finish is designed for gun stocks and can take years of use and wear.
Versatile -
This mallet can serve as a decoration in your shop, or a staple of it. A pretty heirloom or a tool used every day. It is ideal for woodworking - chiseling, furniture assembly, percussive maintenance... etc., but it can be used for anything you might need a mallet for.
Each of my mallets is a one of kind tool that is handmade one at a time with it's own shape, size, and feel.
